Washer leaking
or won't spin?
Standing water, a drum that will not turn, or a machine that walks across the laundry room floor. We repair front-load and top-load washers from every major brand, usually in one visit.
A washing machine failure rarely announces itself politely. It is either a puddle spreading across the floor or a drum full of soaking laundry that will not drain. Both are fixable, and both are usually cheaper than people expect.
The three faults that account for most Chicago washer calls are a blocked drain pump, worn drum bearings, and a failed door lock assembly. All three are standard repairs we carry parts for. We service front-load, top-load, high-efficiency, and stacked washer-dryer units.
Symptoms
Washer Repair faults we fix every week
If your appliance is doing any of the following, it is a repair we handle routinely and usually finish in one visit.
- Water will not drain at the end of the cycle
- Drum fills but never spins
- Machine leaks from the door or underneath
- Violent shaking or walking during spin
- Loud grinding or rumbling on spin cycle
- Door will not unlock at cycle end
- Cycle stops partway and shows an error code
- Machine will not start or fill at all
- Clothes come out soaking wet after spin
The usual suspects
Drain pump blockage. Coins, hairpins, socks and lint reach the pump and jam the impeller. The machine fills, washes, then stalls with a full drum. Clearing the pump and filter is often a one-hour job.
Door lock assembly. Front-loaders will not run without a confirmed door lock signal. When the assembly fails, the machine either refuses to start or traps your laundry inside. It is a cheap part and a fast replacement.
Drum bearings. A rumbling that grows louder through the spin cycle means the bearings are going. This is a bigger job — the drum must come apart — and it is the one washer repair where age genuinely matters to the repair-or-replace decision.
Suspension and shock absorbers. A washer that walks across the floor usually has worn suspension rods or shocks, not an unbalanced load. Left alone it will eventually damage the drum and the cabinet.
Inlet valve and pressure switch. A machine that will not fill, or overfills and floods, points at the water inlet valve or the pressure switch that tells the control board how full the drum is.
Front-load versus top-load
Front-loaders use less water and spin faster, but the door seal traps moisture and grows mould if the door is kept shut. If your machine smells, the gasket usually needs cleaning or replacing — that is a repair, not a lost cause. Top-loaders are simpler mechanically and their most common failure is the lid switch or the drive coupling.

Questions
Washer Repair FAQ
Why won't my washer drain?
In the large majority of cases a foreign object — a coin, a hairpin, a sock — has jammed the drain pump impeller, or the pump filter is packed with lint. Both are quick, inexpensive repairs. A failed drain pump motor or a kinked drain hose are the next most likely causes.
My washer shakes violently on spin. Is that dangerous?
It should be addressed quickly. Violent shaking usually means worn suspension rods or shock absorbers, and running the machine that way puts stress on the drum, the bearings and the cabinet. A suspension repair now is much cheaper than a drum repair later.
Is a washer with bad bearings worth fixing?
It depends on age and brand. Bearing replacement is labour-intensive. On a machine under six years old, or on a premium brand, it is usually worth it. On a budget machine over eight years old, replacement often makes more sense — and we will tell you so.
Do you repair stacked washer-dryer units?
Yes. Stacked and all-in-one combination units are common in Chicago apartments and condos, and we service them routinely, including the extra work of safely separating the stack.
My front-loader smells musty. Can that be fixed?
Yes. The smell comes from mould in the door gasket and the detergent drawer. We clean or replace the gasket and clear the drain path. Leaving the door ajar between washes prevents it coming back.
