Dryer not heating?
Fixed today.

Three cycles to dry one load, no heat at all, or a drum that will not turn. We repair gas and electric dryers, and we check the vent line while we are there — because a blocked vent is both the most common cause and a genuine fire risk.

Dryer complaints usually arrive as "it takes forever now". That gradual decline almost always means restricted airflow, not a failing heating element. Moist air cannot escape, so the clothes stay damp and the machine cycles its thermal fuse trying to protect itself.

We diagnose the whole path — lint filter, blower, internal ducting, and the vent run to the outside wall. Chicago homes with long vent runs through a basement or up through a condo riser are especially prone to this, and it is worth taking seriously: restricted dryer vents are a leading cause of household fires.

Symptoms

Dryer Repair faults we fix every week

If your appliance is doing any of the following, it is a repair we handle routinely and usually finish in one visit.

  • No heat at all, drum still turns
  • Clothes take two or three cycles to dry
  • Drum will not turn but the motor hums
  • Dryer shuts off partway through the cycle
  • Burning or scorched smell during operation
  • Loud squealing or thumping from the drum
  • Dryer will not start at all
  • Outside of the machine is unusually hot
  • Control panel dead or showing an error

What we check, in order

Airflow and venting. Before replacing any part we verify the machine can actually exhaust. A clogged vent line causes slow drying, overheating, tripped thermal fuses and, in the worst case, fire. This check is part of every dryer call we run.

Thermal fuse. A one-shot safety device that blows when the dryer overheats — usually because of the blocked vent above. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent guarantees a repeat failure, so we do both.

Heating element (electric) or igniter and gas valve (gas). Genuine no-heat faults come down to these. Both are stocked parts and both are same-visit repairs.

Drum belt, idler pulley and rollers. A motor that hums while the drum sits still means a snapped belt. Squealing and thumping point to worn rollers or a failing idler pulley.

Moisture sensor. On sensor-dry cycles, a fouled or failed moisture sensor makes the dryer stop early with damp clothes. Cleaning or replacing it restores normal cycles.

Gas versus electric

Gas dryers are licensed work — an improperly reconnected gas line is not a DIY risk worth taking. We are licensed for gas appliance work in Illinois and every gas connection is leak-tested before we leave. Electric dryers on 240V circuits carry their own hazards, including a common fault where the machine runs but will not heat because one leg of the circuit or a house fuse has failed.

Questions

Dryer Repair FAQ

Why does my dryer take three cycles to dry one load?

Almost always restricted airflow. The lint filter, the internal blower housing, or the vent duct to the outside is blocked. Moist air cannot leave, so the clothes never dry. Clearing the vent line usually restores normal performance immediately, and it removes a real fire hazard at the same time.

My dryer runs but produces no heat. What is it?

On an electric dryer, a failed heating element or a blown thermal fuse. On a gas dryer, a failed igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coil. All are stocked parts and normally replaced on the first visit.

Is a blocked dryer vent really dangerous?

Yes. Lint is highly flammable and restricted venting causes the machine to overheat. Blocked dryer vents are a documented leading cause of residential fires. We check the vent path on every dryer call for exactly this reason.

Do you work on gas dryers?

Yes. We are licensed for gas appliance work in Illinois. Every gas connection we open is leak-tested before we leave the property.

How much does dryer repair usually cost?

Most dryer repairs fall between $150 and $350 including parts and labor. A thermal fuse and vent clearing is at the low end; a gas valve or control board sits at the higher end. You get the exact price before work starts.
